Has anyone used Atarax?

I know it's an antihistamine, but makes me really sleepy and relaxed. I have it for itching/hives, and thought if it would work for anxiety it could save me a trip to the doctor's - or is it worth it to get a prescription for Xanax? I've actually been feeling really positive about the trip and much more calm about the flight. I've wanted to cancel for awhile, but not anymore...looking forward to the trip!
